anime-expo2008

To be honest, I don’t know much about Anime or Manga, but @dragonal’s cousins and aunt convinced us to go Anime Expo last year. I had a really great time. So I couldn’t miss this year’s event! My sister and brother are both addicted to it too, so why not make it a family affair? :)

The one thing I really love about this conference is seeing everyone all dressed up. You can’t help but smile at all the amazing costumes. I’m going to attempt to buy some Anime stuff this time so I can learn a thing or two about Anime. :)

And if you didn’t know already, I’m a big fan of Pikachu! Last year I managed to find Ash and cute little Pikachu. I wonder who will show up this year. I can’t wait until tomorrow! If you’re at the Anime Expo tomorrow, let’s meet up! I’ll be tweeting where I’m at. :)

Blooming Plumeria!

I just noticed that my plumeria started blooming yesterday! I repotted it and decided to take some photos today since it’s so nice and sunny. I love the two-tone colors. :) I can’t wait until the other flowers start blooming too.

tales-of-beedle-the-bardI just finished reading The Tales of Beedle the Bard by J.K. Rowling and really loved it. It’s a nice companion to the Harry Potter Series. As you can see, I’m gearing up for the movie. I’m hoping to finish up “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince soon as well.

Here is my review of The Tales of Beedle the Bard. You can also see this review at my Shelfari.

Remember when you were young and read stories about Cinderella and Snow White? The Tales of Beedle the Bard are short stories that have been changed over time in the wizardy world. In this book, you will find short stories about wizard and witches, along with Dumbledore’s commentaries about each of them. Since Dumbledore specifically wrote his commentaries, as if for Hogwarts students, J. R. Rowling also annotated where needed.

It’s a very cute and imaginative idea. I love it, and it gives a better insight into the Wizardy world. The book is a bit short (107 pages – 5 short stories), so I hope there will be more of this type of book in the future!

My favorite short stories were “The Fountain of Fair Fortune”, “The Tale of Three Brothers,” and “Babbity Rabbity And Her Cackling Stump,” but of course, they’re all great. Definitely get the hardcover for the beautiful cover illustration by Mary GrandPre. The typeface and artwork within the book is quite exquisite as well.

A great companion to this book is J.K. Rowling’s “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.

shelfari

I’ve been very addicted to this website called Shelfari lately. Yes I have an account on LibraryThing and GoodReads, but there’s just something about seeing bookjackets on a shelf that makes me fall in love with it.

Throughout my life, I’ve been surrounded by libraries (in fact, I work in one) and this website just makes me feel right at home. Not only that, it also encourages me to read more so I can continue adding books to my shelf. Most will go on my to-read or wishlist.

I recently finished the Twilight Saga series; I had no idea it was so good! I’m now starting Harry Potter Book 6; hoping to finish it before seeing the movie.

Please add me on your Shelfari list so we can share books and reviews.

WordCamp SF was the first WordCamp event that I attended physically. I attended PodCamp+WordCamp Hawaii virtually last year. I have to say that I had the best time ever. I knew I would the moment I found out the date and registered. There were more than 700+ attendees… doubling the size from last year! There were so many great people attending too. I didn’t get the chance to meet and talk to everyone that I wanted to, but there’s always next year, and WordCamp LA is coming up as well!

WordPress means A LOT to me since I was using it from the very beginning. It’s the essence of my internet existence. When @photomatt gave the State of the Word, it brought back so many nostalgic memories. I remember helping Michel V (the original coder of b2) beta test his software about 9 years ago. I use to constantly hack b2 every way I could. And I also remember when WordPress was born, as well as all the other blog software there were competing with WP at the time. It was a nice walk down my internet memory lane, and I shall not forget it.

@Veronica, @Giannii, @mcnitt, @jyamasaki, @jamescway and I were pretty busy getting ready for #winebarsf tweetup today. We had some great swag arriving all over the place! Many thanks to MightyLeaf, Digg, Revision 3, Tekzilla, Disqus, Zappos, FunnyorDie, AllTop, Twit, Google, Box.net, and Seesmic for all the awesome goodies!

@daynah & @mcnittBefore the event, I had a pre-tweetup dinner with @emilychang, @maxkiesler, @mcnitt, and @dragonal at Santorini. Mmm, the food was delicious! I highly recommend going there if you get the chance. We left the restaurant to head over to the #winebarsf tweetup, but hit Critical Mass. I didn’t know what that was until I heard all the cars honking at the cyclists. Oops. We were stuck in traffic for a bit, but finally made it to the #winebarsf tweetup!

#winebarsf TweetupIt was awesome seeing all our fellow geeks in one place. :) I got to meet a lot of people — too many to name — that night. It turned out to be a nice pre-Wordcamp event. Thank you all for coming!

I left #winebarsf around 10:30pm and went to have desserts at Ghiradelli with my college friends. Yum. Yum, yum. Now I need to figure out how to get some sleep before the big day at Wordcamp SF!

Google I/O Day 2

In: Events

28 May 2009

Day 2 at the Google I/O Conference started earlier. When I got to the keynote, there were Lego all over the chairs. Could this be our next surprise? I do love Lego, but I can’t possibly love it more than this G2 phone. ;)

Then the announcement of Google Wave came! I’m sure Vic loves giving out all the great news. ;)

After the demo of Google Wave, I couldn’t wait to start using it! It’s like forums + email + IM + Google Docs + rsvp forms + all communication tools rolled into one! Very amazing! I think it’ll be a product that will revolutionize the internet.. Attendees of the conference will be getting accounts to test out the new product. I can’t wait!

After the Keynote, I was jumping in and out of sessions. There’s just so many that it’s hard to decide which to go to.

By 5pm, I felt really sad that Google I/O was over. But there’s always next year to look forward to!

Daynah @ Google I/O

Day 1 at the Google I/O Conference will always be very memorable to me. I shall never forget it. I arrived at Moscone Center West with my friends and a huge Google Map pin awaited us outside the front steps. How super geeky and cool. :)

Registration was super fast. We got our spiffy Google I/O badge that was all decked out with a QR code with all of our contact info on it. They keynote started a little after 9am and everyone rushed to the third floor.

G2 Phone, Gift from Google I/OMany things were said in the keynote about new products, but the most exciting part was when Vic Gundotra said we’d each get a box with a URL in it. In addition to that box, we’d also get a Google phone. The crowd of 4.000+ attendees went wild at this point!

Yahoo!

I made it safely to Northern California. I’ve forgotten how vast this state was. It was a long drive, but DragonAl and I made a few stops along the way. We’re both tired and achy, but very happy to be here!

We had a quick dinner at In-n-Out. But this In-n-Out was special.. you can see the Yahoo! building outside of it’s windows. :)

And I have this geeky beauty to look forward to in the morning! Google I/O, here I come!

Daynah Loves iPhone Apps

I hope everyone had a great Memorial Day weekend. It makes me a bit sad to know that the weekend is over though. This weekend has been quite relaxing. I really enjoyed not doing much and just resting up before my trip to San Francisco.

I finally got the chance to see Star Trek this weekend with the family, and I loved it! I also stopped by the Brea Mall for an hour or so to get a few things before going to SF, and the Apple Store display caught my eye! I wanted a photo with Dizzy Bee! It’s one of my favorite games. Get it if you don’t have it yet. Dizzy Bee 2 is awesome.

I had my nose in a book all weekend, which isn’t typical. I started reading Twilight two days ago, and I can’t seem to put it down. I feel like a young teenager in love reading this book! I think I need to go pick up New Moon soon… sigh!

My road trip to San Francisco starts tomorrow. I should be up in the Bay Area around 10pm or so? Then I have an early day at Google I/O. I know it’s a bit dorky, but I’m so super excited about this Developer conference. And then there’s Wordcamp SF on Saturday. It’s going to be a super geeky week for me and I can’t wait.

More details about SF events later! I need to finish packing. ;)

Oh yes, before I forget, Happy Towel Day!
