Oahu 2009: Day 2 – Hulaween Tweetup

#Hulaween Tweetup at Nico's 10/31/2009

One thing I love to do when traveling is organize Tweetups so I can meet my twitter friends! And going to Hawaii is no different. We had a “Hulaween” Lunch Tweetup on Saturday, Oct. 31st. It’s a good thing that it was on a Saturday because all the kids were able to attend.

Nico's At Pier 38We had lunch at Nico’s at Pier 38, which is a favorite place of ours ever since @hawaii introduced it to us last year! Anything with the seared ahi is good!

It was such a nice and friendly tweetup group. 19 people attended (more came after this photo was taken). More photos to come (after I’m back from my vacation).

p.s. This photo should be on Hawaii IRL! :)

Oahu 2009: Day 1

At LAX, tweeting my last tweet before the flight!Vacation is finally here! Albert and I left for LAX in the afternoon to catch our flight to Honolulu. Traffic was amazingly non-existent, and on a Friday afternoon too!

I love Hawaiian Airlines. It’s one of the few airlines that still serves food on their flights! My 5-hour flight was pretty enjoyable. Before I knew it, we landed in Honolulu already!

Ed was sweet enough to pick us from the airport when we landed, and took us out for dinner at Sanoya Rahmen. The service here was a bit slow, the food here was definitely worth the wait. The portions were huge, and slowly, but surely, I finished my bowl of ramen!

Sanoya RahmenBefore heading back to the hotel, we stopped by the biggest Safeway on the island to pick up some snacks. We had to pick up some POG (Passion, orange, guava juice) while we were at it! It’s a favorite of ours, along with the Hawaiian sun drinks.

We then checked into Aqua Pearl Waikiki and called it a night. It’s right on the other side of the International Market. So if you like shopping, it’s within walking distance to all the little shops. But since it’s close in town, it’s a bit on the noisy side as well.

First night in paradise.. and we can’t wait for tomorrow’s Tweetup! Going to see a lot of friends at Nico’s at Pier 38!

Another Blog World Expo has come and gone. This is actually my first Blog World Expo event, and I greatly enjoyed it. There were just so many amazing sessions taking place that it was very hard to choose which to go to. In addition to the panels, I met a lot of amazing people who are changing our world through social media and online tools.

I took a lot of notes that I need to review before writing a full article, so come back later for that! Here is a list of the panels and events that I attended:

Cirque Du Soleil – The Beatles LOVE

I had the opportunity to see Cirque du Soleil’s Beatles Love show in Las Vegas during Blog World Expo 2009 this year. I have to say it’s one of my favorite Vegas shows so far.

Blog World Expo 2009 - Day 2At the entrance of the theatre, your eyes are dazzled with the beautiful color-changing lights that decorate the walkway from top to bottom.

I was pleasantly surprised at how clear and crisp the music was from my seat. I later learned that each seat had 3 speakers on it, which means over 6,500 total in the theatre to create the most complex audio system in the world! I can’t think of a better deserving music than the Beatles Love.

WordCamp SF was the first WordCamp event that I attended physically. I attended PodCamp+WordCamp Hawaii virtually last year. I have to say that I had the best time ever. I knew I would the moment I found out the date and registered. There were more than 700+ attendees… doubling the size from last year! There were so many great people attending too. I didn’t get the chance to meet and talk to everyone that I wanted to, but there’s always next year, and WordCamp LA is coming up as well!

WordPress means A LOT to me since I was using it from the very beginning. It’s the essence of my internet existence. When @photomatt gave the State of the Word, it brought back so many nostalgic memories. I remember helping Michel V (the original coder of b2) beta test his software about 9 years ago. I use to constantly hack b2 every way I could. And I also remember when WordPress was born, as well as all the other blog software there were competing with WP at the time. It was a nice walk down my internet memory lane, and I shall not forget it.
