We woke up early and headed to the <a href="http://www.gonorthshore.org/">North Shore</a> side of Oahu. I heard the beaches on this side are amazing. On our way to the beaches, we saw a sign that said &#8220;Historical Town of Haleiwa.&#8221; So of course we stopped by! Lucky we did, because <a href="http://www.matsumotoshaveice.com/">Matsumoto&#8217;s Shave Ice</a> was on this street! It&#8217;s the famous dessert place showed on <a href="http://www.foodnetwork.com/40-a-day">Rachel Ray&#8217;s $40 a Day</a> and <a href="http://www.foodnetwork.com/unwrapped/">Unwrapped</a>! We got the Large Matsumoto (rainbow and all flavors!) with ice Cream. Yummy! I suggest getting the one with the beans and ice cream. Heard that was really good also!</p>
<p><span id="more-55"></span><br />
So this is how they make the shave ice dessert!<br />
<object classid="clsid:D27CDB6E-AE6D-11cf-96B8-444553540000" width="437" height="370" id="viddler_c771fb1f"><param name="movie" value="http://www.viddler.com/player/c771fb1f/" /><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always" /><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true" /><embed src="http://www.viddler.com/player/c771fb1f/" width="437" height="370" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowScriptAccess="always" allowFullScreen="true" name="viddler_c771fb1f" ></embed></object></p>
<p>After our snack, we drove around to find real food. After seeing a few shrimp shacks, we stopped by <a href="http://www.yelp.com/biz/romys-kahuku-prawns-and-shrimp-inc-north-shore">Romy&#8217;s Prawn and Shrimp</a>. The food wasn&#8217;t that bad, but the wait was a bit long. And eating shrimp is very messy. heh But they have a sink with soap for your convience! The fun part was actually after lunch. We strolled around the back and checked out the small lake with live prawns. Did you know you can fish for them? One of the workers actually held up a huge prawn for me to see!</p>
<p><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/phpprincess/2898455172/" title="Garlic Shrimp by PHP Princess, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3201/2898455172_f61b00c704.jpg" width="500" height="333" alt="Garlic Shrimp" /></a><br />
I had garlic shrimp for lunch. Wonder if I should have gotten prawns since they look a lot fresher!</p>
<p><object classid="clsid:D27CDB6E-AE6D-11cf-96B8-444553540000" width="437" height="370" id="viddler_140e11be"><param name="movie" value="http://www.viddler.com/player/140e11be/" /><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always" /><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true" /><embed src="http://www.viddler.com/player/140e11be/" width="437" height="370" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowScriptAccess="always" allowFullScreen="true" name="viddler_140e11be" ></embed></object><br />
Video clip at Romy&#8217;s.</p>
<p>We stopped by <a href="http://www.adrhi.com/beaches/oahu/sunset/">Sunset Beach</a> for a bit. Parking was very hard to find here, but we got lucky. Beautiful beach, but I would suggest bringing an umbrella. It&#8217;s quite sunny since there are no trees around!</p>
<p><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/phpprincess/2897614955/" title="Shallow Waters at Pupukea Beach Park (aka Shark's Cove) by PHP Princess, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3036/2897614955_b25d8a9247.jpg" width="500" height="333" alt="Shallow Waters at Pupukea Beach Park (aka Shark's Cove)" /></a></p>
<p>We drove around some more and went to <a href="http://www.hawaiiweb.com/oahu/beaches/sharks_cove.htm">Pupukea Beach Park</a>, aka Shark&#8217;s Cove. I liked it! There&#8217;s lots of palm trees and the water is shallow enough for you to walk in. Very nice to see crabs right on the beach and rocks. But if you swim out further, the snorkeling gets much better. We stayed there for several hours.</p>
<p>On our way back, we stopped by <a href="http://www.hawaiiweb.com/oahu/beaches/waimea_bay_beach_park.htm">Waimea Bay Beach Park</a>. The waves here are quite rough. We just sat down for an hour or so, watching the courageous people jumping off the big rock. Crazy!</p>
<p><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/phpprincess/2897640587/" title="Between the Ocean and Beach by PHP Princess, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3055/2897640587_14953be2b2.jpg" width="500" height="333" alt="Between the Ocean and Beach" /></a></p>
<p>Before heading home, we stopped by <a href="http://www.khnl.com/Global/story.asp?S=2080208">Breakers Restaurant and Bar</a> for dinner. The food was good, but nothing too fancy but the service was great. I liked the atmosphere too. It&#8217;s like a tiki bar with live music!</p>

<p>Day 3.. we got up extra early today and left before the hotel even served breakfast. We wanted to get to <a href="http://www.hawaiiweb.com/html/hanauma_bay_beach.html">Hanauma Bay Beach</a> as quickly as possible since parking is limited, and the beach gets crowded quickly.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/phpprincess/2894532580/" title="Hanauma Bay Park, Oahu by PHP Princess, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3269/2894532580_447eed40ab.jpg" width="500" height="375" alt="Hanauma Bay Park, Oahu" /></a><br />
The view from the top of Hanauma Bay Beach was quite amazing! And the view in the ocean was even more magnificent. We went snorkeling for a good two hours or so, and so all sorts of fishes. The highlight of course was the sea turtle that my friends and I managed to follow around.</p>
<p><span id="more-38"></span><br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/phpprincess/2893689843/" title="Swam with a Sea Turtle! by PHP Princess, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3292/2893689843_ae77bec18b.jpg" width="500" height="375" alt="Swam with a Sea Turtle!" /></a><br />
Sea Turtle!</p>
<p><object classid="clsid:D27CDB6E-AE6D-11cf-96B8-444553540000" width="437" height="370" id="viddler_865488d"><param name="movie" value="http://www.viddler.com/player/865488d/" /><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always" /><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true" /><embed src="http://www.viddler.com/player/865488d/" width="437" height="370" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowScriptAccess="always" allowFullScreen="true" name="viddler_865488d" ></embed></object></p>
<p>We had lunch at a nearby Ono Shrimp truck. Yum.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/phpprincess/2893709417/" title="Returning Kayaks by PHP Princess, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3132/2893709417_1890eeafca.jpg" width="500" height="375" alt="Returning Kayaks" /></a></p>
<p>Afterward, we went to rent some kayaks in Kailua! There&#8217;s a great place called <a href="http://www.kailuasailboards.com/">Kailua Sailboards and Kayaks, Inc.</a>. For a half day Double Kayak, it&#8217;s $49.00. Backrests are $3 each. I definitely suggest getting on.</p>
<p>We kayaked to Flat Island which is a bird sanctuary. I think it&#8217;s off season though.. not too many birds nesting there. You can also kayak to the other nearby islands too. </p>
<p>For dinner, we had lunch at Todai which was conveniently across the street from hotel.<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/phpprincess/2894592254/" title="IMG_4070 by PHP Princess, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3262/2894592254_5a81964827.jpg" width="500" height="375" alt="IMG_4070" /></a></p>
<p>And since it was Friday night, The Hilton Hotel (which is also located across the street) was having a free Polynesian show and fireworks. It&#8217;s a weekly event, so do plan to go on your next trip to Oahu! By 9pm, the fireworks started to go off. I have never been THAT close to fireworks before. And seeing it above the ocean was beautiful. The only thing that would make it better is if they did the show to music. But no complaints. It was awesome sitting on the beach and looking up at the lights.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/phpprincess/2892862868/" title="Fireworks! by PHP Princess, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3106/2892862868_0db935c028.jpg" width="500" height="333" alt="Fireworks!" /></a></p>
<p>Day 3 at Oahu was awesome. :) <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/phpprincess/tags/oahuday3/">More photos from Oahu Day 3</a>.</p>

<p>Day 2, We had a quick breakfast at the hotel and walked across the street to check out the beach at the Hilton. It was really lovely! There were shops everywhere, ponds will with fishes with birds lurking around, and soaking my feet in the sand felt really nice!</p>
<p>Then we went driving around the island and ended up at the Mall at Pearl Harbor to grab a quick bite to eat. We dropped by the airport around 4pm to pick up our friends, Nhut and Steve.</p>
<p>After checking-in, we drove out to Waikiki Beach (which seems to be a very happening place at night!) and watched the sunset. There was also a show in the park, under the huge banyan tree. Hungry, we went searching for <a href="http://www.sanseihawaii.com/">Sansei</a> to have dinner. </p>

<p>Sansei was such a nice choice. The atmosphere was fantastic, and the food and service was quite exquisite. I always recommend getting the butterfish. That dish just melts in your mouth! </p>
