Day 1 at the Google I/O Conference will always be very memorable to me. I shall never forget it. I arrived at Moscone Center West with my friends and a huge Google Map pin awaited us outside the front steps. How super geeky and cool. :)

Registration was super fast. We got our spiffy Google I/O badge that was all decked out with a QR code with all of our contact info on it. They keynote started a little after 9am and everyone rushed to the third floor.

Many things were said in the keynote about new products, but the most exciting part was when Vic Gundotra said we’d each get a box with a URL in it. In addition to that box, we’d also get a Google phone. The crowd of 4.000+ attendees went wild at this point!

Demos of HTML 5 were quite impressive and quite exciting. I can’t wait to start implementing with this. The rest of the afternoon, I went to sessions about all sorts of stuff, from Map APIs to HTML 5, to App Engine and GWT. See my Tweets from Google I/O!

Now, the Afterhours Playground was AMAZING. After a long day of information overload, we got to relax at a wild party thrown by google. Wild as in your geekiest dreams! There were video arcade games in the center of the room, robot wars further in, and Lego robots, funky bikes to ride, the Google Maps trike, buffet food on both sides, ice cream, open bar, and so much more.

Photographs from the today’s event were in the slideshow on huge screens in the back. And Mike Relm was dj-ing the night away. It was just a wild and geeky party, I loved it!

And that’s a recap of Day 1 at Google I/O. Can’t wait to hear what surprises Google has for us tomorrow..
